Quick advice, DON'T BE LATE...so if you are driving to the test center, it is a good idea to go one day before the test to know where it is, if you are taking a taxi, make sure you schedule it in advance. Also, It is always good to stay in a hotel close to the building, so you can avoid traffic jams, etc..

In our case we weren't late, shame the Proctor was!

They finally let us in at 0815 (two Cisco employees taking the exam went in at 0800).  Our Proctor didn't turn up till 0845!  This didn't do much for my nerves and not a good start.  This meant we finished later to get the correct allotted time for the lab.

To test QoS, is there big file (like IOS) I can use in configuration section ?

    Note:

NTP Sychronization is making me little bit nervous.

Even all configuration is correct and i set the clock manually very close to server time, it seems take "FOREVER" to synchronized. Tik tik tik.....

You can always copy the IOS that is running on another router's flash - need to setup tftp server though and copy to null:

Test QoS can be a little time consuming, though. So sometimes the best way to go is to just verify your configs and use the CLI to test/verify.

    Just my 2 cents

Easy way to test: enable HTTP server on router/swtch

Execute this command in another device:

    copy http://Remote-router/IOSNAME null:

And during the exam I didn't see any NTP synchronize issues like I had on GNS.

    Good Luck

    For TB :

    a. Can I open as MANY consoles windowss as i want ?

I get used to open multiple windows so i can compare config side by side, copy paste and check hop by hop quickly

(I hate jump from one router to another, just not my style).

    b.  At end of TB, Will ALL routers automatically save their config ? or just the one I manually save it ("wr").

If i did some config change on the "path" to isolate the issue, should i remove/clean it up ?

or as long i don't save it and not impacting,  it's ok ?

    Re: Test environment ?

    Hi Andis,

    a) yes - you can open multiple windows on Putty

    b) no - I would save my config after solving a trouble ticket, so best strategy is to resolve the ticket and save config, I would not rely on anything saving the changes automatically. Also, you should change config that will resolve your problem, so anything you added to aid on troubleshooting should be removed.

    Good luck!

For OSPF Authentication: Authenticate Area Z between Rx to Ry using MD5.

    Should we choose:

    A. Purely interface authentication

int > ip ospf authentication  message-digest

        int >ip ospf message-digest-key 1 md5 <>

     OR

    B.  Area + Interface authentication:

        OSPF>area <Z> authentication message-digest

         int >ip ospf message-digest-key 1 md5 <>

    Verification: sh ip ospf

Purely interface authentication doesn't show the Area X is authenticated.

I just don't want the grading script give me zero point!

    Just want to be sure.

    Re: Test environment ?

    Hi AndiS,

Usually you will do whatever they ask you to do. Bear in mind that both options accomplish the same thing, but an example of when you are going to use the interface authentication is when you only need 1 or 2 interfaces on area authenticated, not all.

    Good luck!

It really depends on task, if you have to authenticate only particular OSPF neighbor use inteface-level authentication and if you have to authenticate all OSPF neighbors within area, use area authentication.

    Good Luck

How big is the monitor screen ?

Can we open diagram and question on separate window ?

so we can see diagram, question and console side by side & at same time so can configure it quickly ?

I get easly lost track & frustated when has to flip flop between pages...IT guy get used to 2 - 3 monitor screen in the office  :)  i get spoiled too.

I don't really like to redraw my own diagram on paper for every layer2, IGP, BGP, Ipv6, Multicast..etc. take so much time and error prone.

Can we take screen shot, paste on "Paint" then make note over there ?

    Re: Test environment ?

    It's probably a 24" wide-format (not 4x3) monitor.

You'll have a window for "the test".  It can launch additional windows for questions, diagrams, rules.

You can have putty windows open for each device; the putty windows are set to always be on top so you may have to move windows around to see what you want.

I don't know if Paint was available.  It's extremely locked down.

Where are you taking the lab?

NH hotel is the closest for Brussels. It's literally a 5 min walk from the hotel.

For the TS I recommend to close the Putty windows you aren't using between each ticket. Otherwise you'll end up with 20 windows and don't know where to find all the stuff.

For San Jose, try to find a hotel near the Milpitas area, they are not very expensive and pretty close to Cisco.
