just go to www.ciscoland.net they have all of these already packaged together so you dont have to search all over ebay for the devices, correct IOSs, modules, cables they do all the hard work for you.

    Dear lancen 1999,

I live in a third world country (Pakistan) and we dont have such luxuries like ciscoland and even e-bay. And even if I buy from them, it will cause me alof of money jst for shipment. So my only choice is to search local markets. I would really appreciate if someone would help me in building my rack.

Yes you can! For the WIC1T you need other cables than for the WIC2T, WIC2T requires smart serial cables:

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps214/products_tech_note09186a00801f5d87.shtml

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps274/products_tech_note09186a00800b0858.shtml

Remember that you have to buy DCE/DTE cables as you are dunning back2back.

    Khizer:

    W1 Catalyst 3560-24TS-E 12.2(44)SE EMI c3560-advipservicesk9-mz.122-44.SE.bin

    SW2 Catalyst 3560-24TS-E 12.2(44)SE EMI c3560-advipservicesk9-mz.122-44.SE.bin

    SW3 Catalyst 3550-24 EMI 12.2(44)SE EMI c3560-advipservicesk9-mz.122-44.SE.bin

    SW4 Catalyst 3550-24 EMI 12.2(44)SE EMI c3560-advipservicesk9-mz.122-44.SE.bin

    Thats sufficient! Good!

    Khizer:

    R1 2610XM 2 – WIC-1T 128 32* 12.4(10)A Advanced Enterprise Services c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.124-10a.bin

    R2 2610XM 2 – WIC-1T 128 32* 12.4(10)A Advanced Enterprise Services c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.124-10a.bin

    R3 2611XM 1 – NM-4A/S 128 32 12.4(10)A Advanced Enterprise Services c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.124-10a.bin

    R4 1841 2 – WIC-1T 256 64 12.4(24)T1 Advanced Enterprise Services c1841-adventerprisek9-mz.124-24.T1.bin

    R5 1841 2 – WIC-1T 256 64 12.4(24)T1 Advanced Enterprise Services c1841-adventerprisek9-mz.124-24.T1.bin

    R6 1841 1 – WIC-1T 256 64 12.4(24)T1 Advanced Enterprise Services c1841-adventerprisek9-mz.124-24.T1.bin

You can use 2611XMs instead of the 1841s to save money, but thats your choice!

    Khizer:

    BB1 / Frame Relay Switch 2611XM 1 – NM-8A/S 128 32 12.4(10)A Advanced Enterprise Services c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.124-10a.bin

    BB2 2610XM 2 – WIC-1T 128 32* 12.4(10)A Advanced Enterprise Services c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.124-10a.bin

    BB3 2610XM 2 – WIC-1T 128 32* 12.4(10)A Advanced Enterprise Services c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.124-10a.bin

    Access Server 2511RJ N/A 16 16 12.2(15)T17 IP Plus c2500-is-l.122-15.T17.bin

That is also okay! But the BB2 and BB3 are a little big dimensioned as they are mostly just for icmp etc.

As you live in a 3rd world land...where do you want to buy that stuff?

    Dear Zool,

    Thanks alot for your reply.

Well the equipment I written down is available at local markets except some cards/Network modules (NM4A/S & NM8A/S). I am thinking to buy the modules from UK, and then some of my friends can ship them here. I will buy the equipments gradually as I jst started the studies so dont need all the stuff at this time (GNS3 can help me to get started). Also for BB2 and BB3, yeah I know that 2610XMs are a bit more thn required, bt they are the only one available here minus cards and they are very cheap :)

    One more question.

If I use WIC-2T in place of WIC-1T do I need to make changes in INE intial config files ??

Re: CCIE Home Lab (Need Suggestions/advice)

No you dont. You just have to put the Wic2T in the right WIC slot (should be slot 0).

The only difference is that with WIC1T you gain interface Serial0/0 and with the Wic2T you gain Serial0/0 and 0/1.

When you are using one Wic2T instead of twi WIC1T then you maybe got to change it because the first Id can raise to Serial1/0, but this will only happen if you usually use more than one WIC slot or you have a NM-2E2W or NM2FE2W Module.

Re: CCIE Home Lab (Need Suggestions/advice)

    Hi,

Might just be worth mentioning, sorry to hi-jack your post. I used 2 x wic2t in my 2611XM, R3 as per the topology. I had 128/32 in my Router boot found I was getting booting loops due to memory errors. I thought it was a faulty WIC2T as it would work with them both removed, and one in.

Long story short, the smart initialisation was not allocating enough IOMEM. I hard configured the IOMEM and the routers been running like a dream since.

    R3#conf t
    R3(conf)#memory-size iomem 10 (10 = allocate 10% memory to IOMEM).
    R3(conf)#end
    R3#copy r s

Not sure what causes this, but like I said, since I hard configured it, its been fine.

Have you got a good internet connection?

If so rack rental could be good option - minimal investment but tied study times.  But useful to get the feel of real kit.  Also depends how tolerant you are of noise from the fans.

In the long run rack rental is probably more expensive,

If you get WIC-2T, and you use something like the 2522 as the frame switch, remember to get DCE on the right end of the WIC-2T cable.

    @ welshydragon

I have 1 mb broadband but, I totally agree wth you that in the long run, rack rentals are expensive. I am doing research on all these options from almost a week now and after reading almost every topic here in this forum, I decided to go for home LAB as it wll give me  my own scheduling plus setting up your own gear is also a great learning experience. I cannot afford tight schedules as I am working on my country's biggest Core banking/ WAN project for a bank which is in its implementation phase so I want to have my own schedules for studes and labbing.

P.S I spent three years at Bradford and London for my MSC studies. I really miss those ebay and other luxuries here ;)

    @Josephc
    Thanks for your advise.

So I have decided to go for the following equipments(I can afford 3 1841):

that's nice lab- you can use wic2t but you have to buy smart cable - one of the end shoul be for wic1t - and the other end for wc2t- the reason why because your frae relay using nm-8a/s

my lab probably will be similar to yours with the difference that I will use 4 * 3550 switches and still considering 1841 or something else instead
